Marty G. Curtis
Candidate for Board of Directors
Specialty Coffee Association of America
“The time has come to take my message inside the board room, not as an outsider or guest, but as a member of the board with a voice and a vote.”
When a colleague asked if I would accept a nomination to the SCAA board of directors and then run as a petition candidate if necessary, I had a great deal to consider. At the top of the list was my involvement with the technical standards committee. The technical standards committee has been my volunteer home at SCAA for a long time and I would not want my service to that important committee to suffer. I wondered if I could do a good job on the board and the committee at the same time. Once it became clear that I could continue to participate in some way in the work of the committee, I had to give serious consideration to what I might bring to the board.
As far as I’m concerned, each person now running for a seat on the SCAA board of directors has done great things for their organization and the association. After talking with family, friends, and colleagues, I decided I would run for a seat on the board not because I could necessarily do a better job than the other candidates, but because of where I would put my energy and effort as a board member. My priorities are listed on the tabs to the right. Click on each to read more.
Anyone who knows me knows I have a fondness for tie dye shirts, so TIE DYE reminds me what my work on the SCAA board will be about. I have worked for these things from outside the board. If you want me to work for them inside the board then I need your vote.
